J. Royce was founded in 2022 with a clear mission: to deliver construction documents that combine meticulous creativity and drafting precision with real-world buildability.

Tanner’s passion for building began early. In high school he took every available woodshop class and built custom furniture pieces including desks, headboards, and cabinetry. After graduation, he completed a residential construction technology trade program and interned with one of Omaha’s premier custom home builders. He then spent several years working in the field on projects ranging from multi-family apartments and whole-house remodels to additions, detached garages, and high-end basement finishes.

In January 2020, Tanner transitioned into drafting. Leveraging his hands-on construction experience and natural aptitude for software, he quickly mastered industry-standard programs and drafting conventions. Within his first year he was promoted to senior drafter, where he created training materials for new hires and established plan-review protocols that ensured drawings were not only code-compliant and dimensionally accurate, but also practical and error-free in the software his team used. His rare combination of field knowledge and technical drafting skill consistently produces plans that save contractors time and money on the job site.

Since launching J. Royce, Tanner has partnered with contractors, designers, architects, and homeowners throughout the Omaha metro area, completing hundreds of residential projects of every scale. The company continues to grow, refining its process and raising its standards with every set of drawings. Tanner brings uncommon care and precision to every project—detail and service that even larger firms struggle to match.

Outside of work, Tanner married his wife, Ali, in June 2024, and they welcomed their daughter, Ada, in March 2025.
